New Restaurant Alert: NOLA Poboys brings authentic flavors to Houston
NOLA Poboys is a fast casual restaurant serving Cajun specialties such as gumbo, fried seafood, bread pudding and of course po'boys. Its first and original location is in New Orleans but recently the company has decided to expand into other cities, with Houston being one of them. This is exciting for us as there are not too many places who can accurately replicate true New Orleans food. My husband was born and raised in New Orleans and my family frequents the city. We definitely know authentic Cajun food and often times Houston restaurants fall below those expectations. So when we were invited to taste some of the menu items at NOLA Poboys, we were ready to see if they truly were authentic.
To start, they ship in almost everything from Louisiana. This includes their French bread, seafood, hot sausage and beer. This was a great indicator that good things were to come. The verdict: The food was truly authentic. Our favorite items were the Seafood Bisque, Fried Boudain Balls, Chicken and Sausage Gumbo and the Fried Shrimp Po'Boy. They were very reminiscent of the tastes of New Orleans. The only con is that a lot of the menu items were overpriced. I remember seeing a foot long po'boy for $18. I guess authentic Cajun food comes with a price. But it beats having to drive to New Orleans anytime I want a good ole authentic po'boy. Overall, we feel that NOLA Poboys is a great addition to the restaurant scene in Houston. The atmosphere is laid back with true southern hospitality and great tasting food.
